Existing law provides that any person, firm, or corporation, and their lessees, trustees, or receivers, who sell, lease, rent, or deliver water to any person, firm, corporation, municipality, or any other political subdivision of the state, whether under contract or otherwise, is a public utility, and is subject to the provisions of the Public Utilities Act and to the jurisdiction, control, and regulation of the Public Utilities Commission, except as specified. This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to this provision. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 2701 of the Public Utilities Code is amended to read: 2701. Any person, firm, or corporation, their lessees, trustees, receivers or trustees appointed by any courtwhatsoever, owning, controlling, operating, or managing any water system within thisStatestate , who sells, leases, rents, or delivers water to any person, firm, corporation, municipality, or any other political subdivision of theStatestate , whether under contract or otherwise, is a public utility, and is subject to the provisions of Part 1 (commencing with Section 201) of Division 1 and to the jurisdiction, control, and regulation of the commission, except as otherwise provided in this chapter.
