LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 533, as introduced, Cogdill. Counties: purchasing agents. Existing law authorizes the board of supervisors of a county to employ a purchasing agent. In counties having a population of 200,000 or more, the board of supervisors may authorize the purchasing agent to engage independent contractors to perform services for the county, as specified, if the aggregate cost does not exceed $100,000. This bill would instead authorize the board of supervisors to authorize the purchasing agent to engage independent contractors to perform services for the county, as specified, if the aggregate cost does not exceed $150,000. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 25502.5 of the Government Code is amended to read: 25502.5. (a) In counties having a population of 200,000 or more, the board of supervisors may authorize the purchasing agent to engage independent contractors to perform services for the county or county officers, with or without the furnishing of material, when the aggregate cost does not exceed one hundred  fifty thousand dollars  ($100,000)   ($150,000)  . (b) The board of supervisors may establish rules and regulations to effectuate the purposes of this section.
