LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 1756, as introduced, Knight. Pupil instruction. Existing law, commencing January 1, 2012, requires that instruction in social sciences include a study of the role and contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans to the economic, political, and social development of California and the United States. This bill would authorize a school district to elect not to provide this instruction. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 51204.7 is added to the Education Code, to read: 51204.7. Notwithstanding Section 51204.5, as amended by Chapter 81 of the Statutes of 2011, a school district may elect not to provide instruction relating to the role and contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans to the economic, political, and social development of California and the United States.
