Crime: misdemeanor penalties. Existing law provides for the classification of crimes as felonies, misdemeanors, or infractions, and generally provides that a misdemeanor is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding 6 months, by a fine not exceeding $1,000, or both, unless otherwise prescribed by law. This bill would express the Legislature's intent to enact legislation that would revise the penalties for certain misdemeanor offenses. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. It is the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that would revise the penalties for certain misdemeanor offenses.
