Existing law requires the Department of Transportation to engage in various transportation planning activities, including long-term state highway system planning to identify future highway improvements in consultation with transportation planning agencies, county transportation commissions, counties, and cities. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 65086 of the Government Code is amended to read: 65086. The Department of Transportation, in consultation with metropolitan planning organizations, transportation planning agencies, county transportation commissions, counties, and cities, shall carry out long-term state highway system planning to identify future highway improvements.
