LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 57, as introduced, Beall. Transportation planning. Existing law requires the Department of Transportation to engage in various transportation planning activities, including long-term state highway system planning to identify future highway improvements in consultation with transportation planning agencies, county transportation commissions, counties, and cities. This bill would also require those activities to be done in consultation with metropolitan planning organizations. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 65086 of the Government Code is amended to read: 65086. The Department of Transportation, in consultation with  metropolitan planning organizations,  transportation planning agencies, county transportation commissions, counties, and cities, shall carry out long-term state highway system planning to identify future highway improvements.
