LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 747, as introduced, Huber. Pupil instruction: online programs. Existing law defines an asynchronous interactive instructional program as a program in which a pupil and teacher interact using online resources, including, but not limited to, discussion boards, Internet Web sites, and e-mail. This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to this definition. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 51705 of the Education Code is amended to read: 51705. For purposes of this article, the following terms have the following meanings: (a) "Asynchronous interactive instructional program" means a program in which a pupil and teacher interact using online resources, including, but not limited to, discussion boards,  Internet  Web sites, and e-mail. However, the pupil and teacher need not  necessarily  be online at the same time. (b) "Internet" means the global information system that is logically linked together by a globally unique address space based on the Internet Protocol (IP), or its subsequent extensions, and that is able to support communications using the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) suite, or provides, uses, or makes accessible, either publicly or privately, high-level services layered on the communications and related infrastructure described in this subdivision.
