 BILL NUMBER: SB 881INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Senator Corbett FEBRUARY 18, 2011 An act relating to public health. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 881, as introduced, Corbett. Bottled water. Under existing law, the Sherman Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Law, the State Department of Public Health is required to license bottled water plants and water vendors and to enforce various quality, reporting, and labeling standards for bottled and vended water. Violation of these provisions is a crime. This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that would revise the standards for bottled water labeling to provide the appropriate amount of information to ensure that consumers have access to essential water quality information. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. It is the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that would revise the standards for bottled water labeling to provide the appropriate amount of information to ensure that consumers have access to essential water quality information.
