 BILL NUMBER: AB 2341INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Quirk-Silva FEBRUARY 21, 2014 An act relating to education data systems. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 2341, as introduced, Quirk-Silva. Education data systems: military children. Under existing law, the California Education Information System establishes, conducts, and keeps up to date a basic, integrated, statewide information system for education. The system includes, among other things, data from the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System and the California Basic Educational Data System. Existing law also ratifies the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children with the purpose of removing barriers to educational success imposed on children of military families due to the frequent moves and deployment of their parents. This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to assign an identifier for military children in education data systems. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. It is the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that would assign an identifier for military children in education data systems.
