 BILL NUMBER: AB 2417INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Cooley FEBRUARY 19, 2016 An act to amend Section 19 of the Penal Code, relating to crimes. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 2417, as introduced, Cooley. Crimes: misdemeanors. Existing law provides that except in cases where a different punishment is prescribed by law, every offense declared to be a misdemeanor is punishable by imprisonment in the county jail not exceeding 6 months, or by a fine not exceeding $1,000, or by both the fine and imprisonment. This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to that provision. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 19 of the Penal Code is amended to read: 19. Except in cases where a different punishment is prescribed by any law of this state, every offense declared to be a misdemeanor is punishable by imprisonment in  the   a  county jail not exceeding six months,  or  by  a  fine not exceeding one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by  both.   both that fine and imprisonment.
