LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 1127, as introduced, Hancock. Correctional officers: training. Existing law defines a correctional officer of the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation as a peace officer whose authority extends to any place in the state while engaged in the performance of his or her duties. Under existing law, every person described as a peace officer is required to complete an introductory training course prescribed by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, as specified. This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to establish a blue ribbon panel of experts to review the curriculum of the Basic Correctional Officer Academy, as specified. It is the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to establish a blue ribbon panel of experts to review the curriculum of the Basic Correctional Officer Academy and recommend changes, additions, and improvements to the Governor, the Legislature, and the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, reflecting national and international best training practices.
