Existing law sets forth eligibility requirements and limits on the amount of compensation the board may award, and requires the application for compensation to be verified under penalty of perjury.This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to appropriate funds for the payment of claims against the state approved by the California Victim Compensation Board.Existing law requires the California Victim Compensation Board, in cases in which evidence shows that a crime with which a claimant was charged was either not committed at all, or not committed by the claimant, to report the facts of the case and its conclusions to the Legislature with a recommendation that the Legislature make an appropriation for the purpose of indemnifying the claimant for the injury. This bill would appropriate $92,260 from the General Fund to the executive officer of the board for payment of the claim of a specified individual. This act is an urgency statute necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, or safety within the meaning of Article IV of the California Constitution and shall go into immediate effect. The facts constituting the necessity are:In order to pay claims against the state and end hardship to claimants as quickly as possible, it is necessary that this act take effect immediately.
