The bill would require that a senior in the seniors as mentors program be considered a nonteaching volunteer aide for purposes of the provisions governing nonteaching volunteer aides, except as specified. The bill would require the State Department of Education to offer training and support to a local educational agency that operates a seniors as mentors program and to seniors who participate in the program. The bill would require the department to post a notice of the opportunity for seniors to participate in the seniors as mentors program on the departments Internet Web site.
