Digest KeyBill TextWHEREAS, The Legislature finds and declares that the State Department of Educations California Career Resource Network program provides Internet and mobile applications and platforms for career exploration and development planning, financial literacy, and strengthening of career pathways and resources for educators, students, parents, and job seekers, including virtual career/college career and college counseling information and planning templates/maps templates and maps for graduation and credentials; andWHEREAS, The California Career Resource Network provides the following applications and platforms:(1) Career Surfer: a mobile application for providing information on occupational details on the California Career Zone Internet Web site; helping students begin the career exploration and planning process; and(2) The California Career Center: a comprehensive virtual counselor Internet Web site with career and college resources and tools to help students develop high school plans and postsecondary career action plans, with free student accounts; and(3) The California CareerZone: a career exploration system providing easy-to-use career assessment tools, detailed information about California occupational options and postsecondary programs, and a budgeting feature to help students make the connection between lifestyle choices and occupations that can financially support those choices, with free student and educator accounts; and(4) California CareerZone Local Career Pathways: a personalized service for schools to provide students with local career pathways work-based learning opportunities, including customized regional information and automated career planning for students; and(5) Comprehensive Career and College Readiness Lesson Plans: plans designed to help students develop the career self-management skills necessary for success in todays economy; and(2)(6) The Support Personnel Accountability Report Card (SPARC): a voluntary, continuous improvement process for on-site schoolsite Student Support Teams, publishing Teams to publicize the schools career and college readiness student outcomes and their the schools plans for continued success; and(3)Headed2: a personalized service for schools that includes an examination of local career pathways, with options for school-specific content being offered, including customized regional information for curricula and automated career planning for students; andWHEREAS, Students benefit from exposure to a full range of career options to reach their full potential through education and training; andWHEREAS, A career-ready student knows how to choose an occupational goal and develop a viable postsecondary plan; andWHEREAS, Effective career guidance resources are an essential component of a strong school counseling program; andWHEREAS, These resources are an ideal fit with California Guided Career Pathways and Career Technical Education, concurrent with the states goals for public education; andWHEREAS, Different regions, communities, and demographics of the state have diverse needs and opportunities for fulfilling educational attainment, workforce training, job placement, and services; andWHEREAS, These resources are readily available for public schools, ahead of private programs that school districts and schools would have to contract with privately; now, therefore, be itResolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That California public schools should make full use of these available resources provided by the California Career Resource Network in efforts to provide their students with full exposure to various career options; and be it furtherResolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
