The department shall require the course of instruction for entry-level drivers to include, but not be limited to, the following:(a) An applicant for a class A commercial drivers license shall complete a minimum of 30 hours of behind-the-wheel training, at least 10 hours of which shall be on an off-highway facility and 10 hours of which shall be on a public road. For the purpose of meeting this requirement, every 50 minutes of driving time is deemed to be an hour of training.(b) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), an applicant for a class A commercial drivers license participating in an Employer Testing Program, as defined in Section 25.06 of Title 13 of the California Code of Regulations, shall complete a minimum of 15 hours of behind-the-wheel training. For the purpose of meeting this requirement, every 50 minutes of driving time is deemed to be an hour of training.(c) An applicant for a class B commercial drivers license shall complete a minimum of 15 hours of behind-the-wheel training, at least seven hours of which shall be on a public road.
