Existing law generally requires a state entity that is required to conduct criminal background checks to comply with applicable federal requirements. This bill would require the department to identify the number of active duty military personnel working in cybersecurity who are current or former residents of California and the most recent background check and security clearance status of those personnel. The bill would require the department to collaborate with state agencies and departments, including public colleges and universities, to establish a veterans preference to be applied to employment opportunities within the field of cybersecurity that require a security clearance.
