California Community College Month.This measure would recognize April 2019 as California Community College Month.Digest Key Fiscal Committee: NO Bill TextWHEREAS, The California Community Colleges are an essential resource for the State of California, its people, and its economy; and WHEREAS, Californias 115 community colleges provide an excellent general educational foundation for more than 2.2 million students who transfer into the California State University system, the University of California system, and into independent colleges and universities; andWHEREAS, California, the fifth largest economy in the world, and the nation confront major challenges; by 2020, 65 percent of jobs in the United States will require some type of credential or degree beyond high school; andWHEREAS, The California Community Colleges train students to be competitive in todays demanding workforce, providing the skills and knowledge students need to obtain a productive, higher-wage future, and supplying the states fastest-growing industries with the skilled labor upon which their success depends; andWHEREAS, The California Community Colleges bring higher education within the reach of every Californian because of their open admissions, low enrollment fees, financial assistance for low-income students, academic and career guidance, excellent teaching by dedicated faculty, and specialized support services for students who need extra help with the transition to college or to the mastery of college-level coursework; andWHEREAS, The Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges has adopted the Vision for Success, a plan that articulates bold core commitments, including to focus relentlessly on students goals and to always design and decide with the student in mind; andWHEREAS, April is celebrated as Community College Month across the nation; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby recognizes April 2019 as California Community College Month, and commends the states community colleges on providing opportunity and excellence in higher education and workforce preparation; and be it further Resolved, That the Legislature urges the residents of California to participate in public events held on their local community college campuses during California Community College Month; and be it further Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the Governor, the California Education Round Table, the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges, and to the author for appropriate distribution.

WHEREAS, The California Community Colleges are an essential resource for the State of California, its people, and its economy; and 

WHEREAS, Californias 115 community colleges provide an excellent general educational foundation for more than 2.2 million students who transfer into the California State University system, the University of California system, and into independent colleges and universities; and
