Existing law provides that the department is responsible for the fire protection, fire prevention, maintenance, and enhancement of the states forest, range, and brushland resources, contract fire protection, associated emergency services, and assistance in civil disasters and other nonfire emergencies.This bill would require the Secretary of Natural Resources, in consultation with the State Water Resources Control Board, to coordinate and synchronize permits for forest management, wildfire prevention, and fuel reduction.(2) Existing law requires the Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force to develop a comprehensive implementation strategy to track and ensure the achievement of specified goals and key actions, including a joint strategy to annually treat 500,000 acres of federal land and 500,000 acres of nonfederal land by 2025.This bill would provide that it is the intent of the Legislature to achieve this goal.Existing law establishes within the Office of the State Fire Marshal a Deputy Director of Community Wildfire Preparedness and Mitigation who is responsible for fire preparedness and mitigation missions of the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. (k)Achieving the states goal of treating 500,000 acres annually by 2025, independent of acres subject to other forest management activity, including timber harvesting plans pursuant to Chapter 8 (commencing with Section 4511).(l)Streamlining required regulatory approvals, including the synchronization of permits required by the department, the Department of Fish and Wildlife, and regional water quality control boards, as those permits relate to forest management activities.(m)Timely and full reporting of progress and honest identification of obstacles to continued success.

(1) Existing law establishes in state government the Natural Resources Agency consisting of various departments, including the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
