Stillbirth: research.Existing law requires each fetal death in which the fetus has advanced to or beyond the 20th week of uterogestation to be registered with the local registrar of births and deaths. Existing law requires the local registrar to issue, upon the request of the mother or father of the fetus, a Certificate of Still Birth, as specified. Existing law requires a physician in attendance on the delivery of a fetus to state on the certificate of fetal death the time of fetal death or delivery, the direct causes of the fetal death, any conditions that gave rise to these causes, and other medical and health data as may be required on the certificate.This bill would declare the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation relating to research on the occurrence and preventability of stillbirths in California.
