WHEREAS, Public power utilities have served California for more than a century with reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity; and

WHEREAS, Over 10,000,000 Californians in 46 communities are served by a community-owned, not-for-profit public power utility; and

WHEREAS, The residents and businesses in those communities have a direct say in utility operations and policies that shape their communitys energy future; and

WHEREAS, Public power utilities provide homes, businesses, schools, and government agencies with safe, reliable, and efficient electricity and employ sound business practices designed to ensure the best possible service at not-for-profit rates; and

WHEREAS, Public power utilities are valuable community assets that contribute to the well-being of local residents through energy efficiency, customer service, environmental protection, economic development, and safety awareness; and 

WHEREAS, Public power utilities are dependable and trustworthy institutions whose local operations continue to make California a better place to live and work, all while making contributions to enhancing statewide climate solutions; and

Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That the first full week of October each year be designated Public Power Week in the State of California in honor of public power utilities and their customer-owners, policymakers, and employees who work together to provide the best possible energy service for the benefit of their communities; and be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
