Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day.This measure would commemorate February 20, 2025, as Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day.Digest Key Fiscal Committee: NO Bill TextWHEREAS, February 20, 2025, is recognized nationally and internationally as Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day; andWHEREAS, Women have historically made invaluable contributions to the diverse fields of engineering, yet remain underrepresented in both educational pathways and the professional workforce; andWHEREAS, In 1970, only about 3 percent of recorded engineers were women; andWHEREAS, By 2023, women made up approximately 30 percent of those employed in science and engineering fields; andWHEREAS, Women currently earn about 22 percent of bachelors degrees, 31 percent of masters degrees, and nearly 26 percent of doctoral degrees in engineering; and WHEREAS, Women hold about 15 percent of all engineering jobs, reflecting ongoing challenges in achieving gender parity in the field; andWHEREAS, According to recent studies, 1 in 25 boys, but fewer than 1 in 150 girls, report a high interest in pursuing careers in information and computer technologies; and WHEREAS, According to recent studies, women hold 13.7 percent globally of engineering jobs while men hold 86.3 percent of engineering jobs; and WHEREAS, Numerous organizations and programs across the United States are dedicated to bridging the gender gap in engineering by actively encouraging young women and girls to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields, which have been traditionally male-dominated; and WHEREAS, STEM industries play a critical role in maintaining Californias status as the fifth-largest economy globally, with engineering at the forefront of innovation; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That February 20, 2025, is hereby commemorated by the Legislature as Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day; and be it further Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.

WHEREAS, February 20, 2025, is recognized nationally and internationally as Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day; and

WHEREAS, Women have historically made invaluable contributions to the diverse fields of engineering, yet remain underrepresented in both educational pathways and the professional workforce; and

WHEREAS, In 1970, only about 3 percent of recorded engineers were women; and

WHEREAS, By 2023, women made up approximately 30 percent of those employed in science and engineering fields; and

WHEREAS, Women currently earn about 22 percent of bachelors degrees, 31 percent of masters degrees, and nearly 26 percent of doctoral degrees in engineering; and
