The bill changes court classifications and modifies residency requirements in specified counties. The bill does not affect revenue or expenditures of any state or local government and has been assessed as having no fiscal impact. Appropriation Summary: No appropriation is required. Fiscal Note Status: The fiscal note reflects the introduced bill. Summary of Legislation The bill changes the court classifications of Garfield and Montezuma counties from Class C to Class B. Judges in Class B counties must have been admitted to the practice of law in Colorado and are not allowed to practice private law. The bill also changes the requirement that the associate county court judges in Rifle and Rangely live within city limits, and instead allows them to live in the respective counties of Garfield and Rio Blanco. Assessment of No Fiscal Impact The bill changes the court designation of two counties and expands the area where associate county judges may live in two counties. The bill does not substantively change procedures or processes of the trial courts and has been assessed as having no fiscal impact. Effective Date The bill takes effect upon signature of the Governor, or upon becoming law without his signature.
