World War II as home of the famed 10th Mountain Division, which1 trained in the Colorado Rockies at Camp Hale on Tennessee Pass, and the2 Colorado National Guard's 157th Infantry Regiment, which spent 5113 days in continuous combat during World War II, including four4 amphibious landings. Under the command of Captain Felix Sparks, the5 157th Infantry Regiment liberated the Dachau concentration camp.6 Members of both units from Colorado are honored on the Colorado7 Freedom Memorial in Aurora; and8 WHEREAS, The Colorado Freedom Memorial, dedicated in 2013,9 honors all Colorado veterans killed in action since the Spanish-American10 War, and all 3,586 of those killed in World War II are included, making11 the Colorado Freedom Memorial the only memorial in Colorado to honor12 all of our fallen, by name, in one place; and13 WHEREAS, The Colorado Freedom Memorial pays tribute to the14 men and women of Colorado who served in World War II, those who15 gave all, and those who returned home to build Colorado into the16 beautiful state it is today; now, therefore,17 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventy-third18 General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein:19 That we, the General Assembly, in recognition of the heroic efforts20 and great sacrifice of World War II veterans from Colorado and across21 the United States, hereby recognize this commemoration of the 77th22 anniversary of the end of World War II and encourage support throughout23 the House of Representatives and the Senate.24 1009 -2-
