"Dave" Lewis, her high school sweetheart, and in 1977, after her1 graduation from college, they moved to Branson, Colorado, and had six2 children; and3 WHEREAS, In 1992, Representative Lewis and her husband4 purchased her family's ranch and operated it along with a cattle and feed5 hauling business; and6 WHEREAS, After her husband Dave's death in 2000,7 Representative Lewis ran both businesses and raised her children, sending8 all six of them to college on academic and athletic scholarships; and9 WHEREAS, Representative Lewis was an active member of the10 Las Animas Republican party and for 30 years served as the President of11 the Trinidad/Las Animas County Republican Women's Club and for many12 years served as the Chair for Senate District 2; and13 WHEREAS, In 2016, Representative Lewis ran for and was14 elected to the State House of Representatives where she served as the15 Representative for House District 64, and was reelected to a second term16 in 2018; and17 WHEREAS, While serving as a State Representative,18 Representative Lewis served on several committees, including19 Agriculture, Livestock, and Natural Resources; Public Heath Care and20 Human Services; Transportation and Energy; Rural Affairs and21 Agriculture; and Transportation and Local Government, and sponsored22 bills on beef country-of-origin and private property rights issues; and23 WHEREAS, Representative Lewis battled breast cancer three24 times: In 2014, during the 2018 legislative session, and finally throughout25 2019; and26 WHEREAS, Representative Lewis is survived by her six children27 and fourteen grandchildren; and28 WHEREAS, Representative Lewis was a devoted public servant29 who will be remembered for her hard work, dedication, and30 accomplishments; now, therefore,31 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventy-third32 General Assembly of the State of Colorado:33 1002 -2- That, in the death of Kimmi J. Lewis, the people of the State of1 Colorado have lost a dedicated public servant and outstanding citizen, and2 that we, the members of the Colorado House of Representatives, do3 hereby extend our deep and heartfelt sympathy to the members of her4 family and pay tribute to a woman who served her state well and5 faithfully.6 Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Memorial be sent to7 Kelly Wasson, Keith Lewis, Kenneth Lewis, Kerry Froese, Kristine8 Lewis, and Korry Lewis.9 1002 -3-
