ONCERNING RECOGNITION OF SINGLE PARENT DAY IN COLORADO.101

WHEREAS, Parents invest an immeasurable amount of time,2
energy, and devotion to raise their children in order to provide them with3
the love, support, and guidance required to become responsible,4
productive, and successful adults; and5
WHEREAS, The responsibility of raising children is particularly6
difficult when it falls on the shoulders of a single parent; and7
WHEREAS, Over a quarter of U.S. families with children under8
18 years of age are single-parent families, amounting to 10 million9
households. In 2020, nearly 19 million children were living in10
single-parent families in the United States; and11
WHEREAS, In Colorado, over 10 percent of families are led by12
single parents; and13

WHEREAS, The greatest need of every child is to be loved, no15
matter the composition of the child's family; and16

WHEREAS, In 1984, then-President Ronald Reagan declared3
March 21 as "National Single Parent Day"; now, therefore,4
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Seventy-third General5
Assembly of the State of Colorado:6

That we, the members of the Colorado Senate, designate March8
21, 2022, as "Single Parent Day in Colorado" in recognition of the9
dedication and achievements of all single parents.10
Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to11
Janice S. Moglen, longtime Colorado advocate for Single Parent Day.12
