The bill reduces the experience requirements for a marriage or family therapist license. 
The bill will minimally increase state workload in FY 2023-24.

Summary of Legislation 
The bill reduces the experience requirements for a marriage or family therapist license.  Under current 
law, someone with a master’s degree is required to have two years of clinical supervised practice 
before receiving a license and a person with a doctorate is only required to have one.  Under the bill, 
the requirement is one year for either degree. 
State Expenditures 
In FY 2023-24, the bill minimally increases workload in the Division of Professions and Occupations 
in the Department of Regulatory Agencies to revise existing policies.  No change in appropriations is 
required. 
Effective Date 
The bill takes effect 90 days following adjournment of the General Assembly sine die, assuming no 
referendum petition is filed.
