properties that no longer fit within the mission of history Colorado.
Specifically, the bill grants history Colorado the authority to sell
the following:
! The real property known as the McFarlane House in
Central City;
! The real property known as the Pearce-McAllister Cottage
in Denver; and
! The real property known as the Pueblo Museum Support
Center, which was used as a storage facility by history
Colorado until the artifacts housed at the facility were
recently moved to a more northern storage facility for
better access by history Colorado staff.
The bill specifies that the proceeds of the sales are to be credited
to the state museum cash fund to be used in connection with the
acquisition or construction of a consolidated collections care and storage
facility or for controlled maintenance of history Colorado's current
collections care and storage facilities.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Colorado:1
SECTION 1.  Legislative declaration. (1)  The general assembly2
finds and declares that:3
(a)  In 1976, the state historical society, also known as history4
Colorado, acquired property known as the McFarlane House in Central5
City, Colorado, when the property was gifted to history Colorado by the6
then-manager of the Central City Opera. The property has primarily been7
used by the Central City Opera, which has leased the building since it was8
gifted to history Colorado.9
(b)  In 1972, history Colorado acquired the Pearce-McAllister10
Cottage in Denver, Colorado. The facility was the Denver Museum of11
Miniatures, Dolls and Toys for 30 years until 2018. The facility is12
challenging to maintain because it is currently vacant.13
(c)  In 1955, history Colorado acquired the Pueblo Museum14
Support Center in Pueblo, Colorado, which is a building adjacent to the15
1141-2- state fairgrounds. The facility has been used for storage; however,1
artifacts that were at the facility have been moved to a storage facility in2
Denver for easier access by history Colorado staff.3
(d)  History Colorado has determined that these three properties no4
longer fit within its mission and that disposing of the properties would be5
in the best interests of the organization. The disposition of the properties6
also aligns with the goal of finding beneficial uses of unused or7
underutilized state properties and supports the goals of reducing the8
footprint of state government and responsible management of the state9
budget and state facilities.10
SECTION 2.  History Colorado authority to dispose of real11
property. (1)  The state of Colorado, acting by and through the state12
historical society, also known as history Colorado, is authorized to13
dispose of real property located at the following locations:14
(a)  217 Eureka Street, Central City, Colorado, 80427, lot 10, block15
11, City of Central, State of Colorado;16
(b)  1880 Gaylord Street, Denver, Colorado, 80206, lots 7-1017
inclusive, block 5, Park Side Subdivision, City and County of Denver,18
State of Colorado; and19
(c)  905 South Prairie Avenue, Pueblo, Colorado, 81005, lot 16,20
block 1, Sunset Park 1st Sunset Park Subdivision, City of Pueblo, State21
of Colorado.22
(2)  The capital development committee and the state controller23
must approve all agreements relating to the disposition of the real24
property described in subsection (1) of this section prior to closing.25
(3)  The proceeds of the disposition of the real property described26
in subsection (1) of this section must be credited to the state museum cash27

-3- fund created in section 24-80-214, Colorado Revised Statutes, to be used1
in connection with the acquisition or construction of a consolidated2
collections care and storage facility or for controlled maintenance.     3
SECTION 3. Safety clause. The general assembly hereby finds,4
determines, and declares that this act is necessary for the immediate5
preservation of the public peace, health, or safety.6
