ONCERNING A REQUIREMENT THAT A CORONER BE CERTIFIED BY THE
AMERICAN BOARD OF MEDICOLEGAL DEATH INVESTIGATORS OR THE
AMERICAN BOARD OF PATHOLOGY IN FORENSIC PATHOLOGY .
 
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Colorado:
SECTION 1. In Colorado Revised Statutes, 30-10-601.5, amend
(1)(b) and (1)(c); and add (1)(d) as follows:
30-10-601.5.  Qualifications - fingerprints. (1)  A person is eligible
to hold the office of coroner if the person:
(b)  Has earned a high school diploma or its equivalent or a college
degree; and
(c)  Has given a set of fingerprints in accordance with subsection (2)
of this section;

the act. (d)  FOR A CORONER ELECTED ON OR AFTER NOVEMBER 5, 2024, IN
A COUNTY WITH A POPULATION GREATER THAN ONE HUNDRED FIFTY
THOUSAND
, IS A DEATH INVESTIGATOR CERTIFIED BY AND IN GOOD STANDING
WITH THE 
AMERICAN BOARD OF MEDICOLEGAL DEATH INVESTIGATORS OR IS
A FORENSIC PATHOLOGIST CERTIFIED BY AND IN GOOD STANDING WITH THE
AMERICAN BOARD OF PATHOLOGY .
SECTION 2. Act subject to petition - effective date. This act
takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on the day following the expiration of the
ninety-day period after final adjournment of the general assembly; except
that, if a referendum petition is filed pursuant to section 1 (3) of article V
of the state constitution against this act or an item, section, or part of this act
within such period, then the act, item, section, or part will not take effect

November 2024 and, in such case, will take effect on the date of the official
declaration of the vote thereon by the governor.
