Beginning in FY 2024-25, the bill increases state workload. Appropriation Summary: No appropriation is required. Fiscal Note Status: The fiscal note reflects the introduced bill. Summary of Legislation The bill allows independent judicial agencies that rely on an independent contractor model of legal representation (the Office of the Child’s Representative, the Office of the Respondent Parents’ Counsel, and the Office of the Alternate Defense Counsel) to sign a certification for contractors to be eligible for federal public service loan forgiveness. State Expenditures Starting in FY 2024-25, the bill may increase state workload in the offices identified above to sign certifications and to share any required information. This work can be accomplished within existing resources. Effective Date The bill takes effect upon signature of the Governor, or upon becoming law without his signature.
