The bill authorizes the Colorado bureau of investigation (bureau)
to investigate illegal activity involving firearms statewide. The bill
appropriates $1,690,258 to the department of public safety for the bureau

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Colorado:1
SECTION 1. In Colorado Revised Statutes, 24-33.5-412, amend2
(1)(r); and add (1)(t) as follows:3
24-33.5-412.  Functions of bureau - legislative review -4
interagency cooperation with reporting functions - processing time5
for criminal history record checks - computer crime - synthetic6
cannabinoids enforcement. (1)  The bureau has the following authority:7
(r)  To conduct criminal history records checks pursuant to section8
24-72-305.3; and9

O INVESTIGATE ILLEGAL ACTIVITY INVOLVING FIREARMS10
STATEWIDE, INCLUDING INVESTIGATING ILLEGAL FIREARM TRANSFERS AND11
ATTEMPTS TO ILLEGALLY OBTAIN FIREARMS .12
SECTION 2. Appropriation. For the 2024-25 state fiscal year,13
$1,690,258 is appropriated to the department of public safety for use by14
the Colorado bureau of investigation. This appropriation is from the15
general fund and is based on an assumption that the bureau will require16
an additional 10.1 FTE. To implement this act, the bureau may use this17
appropriation for investigation of illegal activity involving firearms.18
SECTION 3. Safety clause. The general assembly finds,19
determines, and declares that this act is necessary for the immediate20
preservation of the public peace, health, or safety or for appropriations for21
the support and maintenance of the departments of the state and state22
institutions.23
