Summary of Legislation
The bill requires the Attorney General to prevent and combat the sharing and spreading of
misinformation through:
 establishing an initiative to encourage respectful discourse;
 development of a curriculum for public use to produce conversations to help people find
common ground; and
 collaboration with state organizations to update and share curriculum materials.
In addition, by March 1, 2025, the Attorney General must report to the General Assembly on
these activities and provide legislative recommendations on certain topics relating to
misinformation and disinformation. Finally, for FY 2024-25, the bill appropriates $150,000 to the
Department of Law from the General Fund.
State Expenditures
In FY 2024-25 only, the bill will increase state General Fund expenditures by $100,000 for the
Department of Law to contract with a vendor to fulfill the requirements of the bill. In future
years, required duties can be accomplished within existing appropriations.
