EMORIALIZING FORMER SENATOR MARYANNE TEBEDO.101
WHEREAS, MaryAnne Tebedo, the former Senator, departed this1
life on February 13, 2023, at the age of 86; and2
WHEREAS, MaryAnne Geivett Tebedo was born on October 30,3
1936, in Denver, Colorado, to Harvey and Alma Geivett; and4
WHEREAS, She married the love of her life, Donald E. Tebedo,5
in 1954, and together they had six children; and6
WHEREAS, MaryAnne and her husband moved to Pueblo,7
Colorado, in 1958 where she became active in politics as a founding8
member of the Belnor Republican Women's Club; and9
WHEREAS, She was then recruited by the Republican Party to10

served as his southern Colorado administrative assistant; and2
WHEREAS, MaryAnne and her husband later moved to Colorado3
Springs, and while raising their children, she was deeply involved in the4
community's political arena, serving on staffing campaigns to elect local5
people to public office, including county commissioners, legislators,6
congressmen, and governors; and7
WHEREAS, Her commitment and dedication to Ronald Reagan8
led her to accept the Co-chairmanship of his El Paso County Presidential9
Election Committee and took her to two national conventions as a10
member of his presidential election staff and Coordinator for Colorado's11
Youth for Reagan; and12
WHEREAS, The very same people whom Senator Tebedo helped13
elect to public office asked her to consider public office herself, which14
she did in 1982, after her youngest child graduated from high school; and15
WHEREAS, She was appointed to represent El Paso county as a16
Republican in the Colorado House of Representatives in 1982 and was17
reelected for three more terms through 1988; and18
WHEREAS, In 1988, Senator Tebedo was elected to serve in the19
Colorado Senate and served until the completion of her career on20
December 31, 2001; and21
WHEREAS, As a member of the Colorado House of22
Representatives, Senator Tebedo served as vice-chair of the Business23
Affairs and Labor committee and served on the Health, Environment,24
Welfare, and Institutions; Appropriations; and Finance committees; and25
WHEREAS, As a senator, Senator Tebedo served as chair of the26
Local Government and State, Veterans, and Military Affairs committees27
and vice-chair of the Transportation; Local Government; and State,28
Veterans, and Military Affairs committees, and she also served on the29
Business Affairs and Labor, Appropriations, and Education committees;30
and31
WHEREAS, Over 30 years ago, Senator Tebedo worked tirelessly,32
along with Costas Rombocos, the CEO of the Shrine of Remembrance33
Funeral Home, and a task force of industry leaders to rewrite and clarify34

-2- the Colorado preneed funeral contracts law to optimally protect the state's1
residents and to provide a clear and concise law that could be uniformly2
observed by the state's death care providers; and3
WHEREAS, In addition to her tenure in the Colorado General4
Assembly, Senator Tebedo was a professional registered parliamentarian,5
beginning in 1979; and6
WHEREAS, Senator Tebedo was a member of the National7
Association of Parliamentarians, served as president of the Colorado8
Springs unit of the national association, and was a member of the board9
of directors of the Colorado Association of Parliamentarians; and10
WHEREAS, In 2000, Senator Tebedo completed studies at the11
University of Denver, University College, as a trained mediator and12
served as a guidelines member of the Colorado Council of Mediator13
Organizations, specializing in civic disputes; and14
WHEREAS, Senator Tebedo was the sole proprietor of Colorado15
Mediation, LLC, practicing mediation, facilitation, negotiation, and16
arbitration; now, therefore,17
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Seventy-fourth General18
Assembly of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives19
concurring herein:20
That, in the death of MaryAnne Tebedo, the people of the State of21
Colorado have lost a devoted public servant and an outstanding citizen,22
and that we, the members of the Seventy-fourth General Assembly, pay23
tribute to MaryAnne Tebedo for years of dedicated public service and do24
hereby extend our deep and heartfelt sympathy to the members of the25
family.26
Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this Joint Memorial be sent27
to Senator Tebedo's surviving children: Kevin, Ronald, and Thomas28
Tebedo and Christine Tebedo Ramirez.29
