The peace officer must inform the driver of the reason or reasons for the stop, unless informing the driver would be unreasonable under the totality of the circumstances. If a peace officer fails to comply with this law, it is not grounds for dismissal of a charge or exclusion of evidence. State Expenditures Judicial Department Any trial court impact from disputing traffic citations is expected to be minimal as a peace officer’s failure to comply is not grounds for case dismissal. Department of Public Safety The Colorado State Patrol will have a minimal workload impact to train officers on the bill’s requirements. Local Government Local law enforcement agencies will have a minimal workload impact to train officers. Effective Date The bill takes effect upon signature of the Governor, or upon becoming law without his signature.
