Summary of Legislation
Current law specifies the individuals who may administer an oath or affirmation in court. The bill
adds certified verbatim reporters and certified verbatim reporters-stenotype to the list of
individuals who may administer oaths and affirmations.
Assessment of No Fiscal Impact
Courts will have additional flexibility for which staff are available to administer an oath or
affirmation, but the bill does not impact the number of personnel required to be present during
court proceedings nor does it affect the overall length of the proceeding. Because this change
will not have any impact on court revenues or expenditures, this bill is assessed as having no
fiscal impact.
Effective Date
The bill takes effect upon signature of the Governor, or upon becoming law without his
signature.
