ONCERNING HONORING GOLD STAR FAMILIES.101
WHEREAS, Since the Revolutionary War, more than one million1
American soldiers have died in battle and military conflicts; their2
families, who have endured these losses and the accompanying grief, are3
known as Gold Star Families; and4
WHEREAS, Gold Star Families were named for the practice of5
families hanging service banners in the windows of their homes, with a6
star for each family member serving in the Armed Forces: Deep blue stars7
were displayed for each living member serving, and they were replaced8
with gold stars if the loved one was killed in action serving our country9
and protecting our freedom; and10
WHEREAS, While George Vaughn Seibold was fighting abroad11
during World War I, his mother, Grace Darling Seibold, channeled her12

stopped arriving and she learned of his death, she took action in her grief2
and, with a group of mothers, established American Gold Star Mothers,3
Inc., in 1928; and4
WHEREAS, Since 1936, Gold Star Mother's and Family's Day has5
been honored, through presidential proclamation, on the last Sunday of6
each September; and7
WHEREAS, The acts of heroism and the stories of courage of8
fallen soldiers are forever remembered in the minds and hearts of their9
families; and10
WHEREAS, While national monuments and memorials serve as11
strong visible reminders for the service members who made the ultimate12
sacrifice in service to our nation, Gold Star Families are a living legacy13
of each fallen soldier and can help us all remember and honor these14
heroes by name; and15
WHEREAS, Long after the battles have ended, as our stars and16
stripes of liberty fly, the families who have at home a folded flag and at17
the table an empty seat deserve our respect and our support; now,18
therefore,19
Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventy-fifth20
General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein:21
That we, the members of the Colorado General Assembly, honor22
the pride and the pain of the parents, partners, children, and siblings of23
our fallen heroes and recognize the families of these proud patriots with24
an expression of profound gratitude and respect.25
Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Joint Resolution be sent26
to the commanders of the American Legion Posts in Colorado; the27
commanders of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts in Colorado; the28
commanders of Colorado's active military bases; the Pikes Peak Chapter29
of American Gold Star Mothers, Inc.; the Denver Chapter of Gold Star30
Wives of America, Inc.; and the Colorado chapters of the Blue Star31
Mothers of America, Inc.32
