Summary of Legislation
Under current law, the Division of Fire Prevention and Control within the Department of Public
Safety (DPS) is required to post certain information on its Wildfire Information and Resource
Center website, including current wildfire statuses, burning restrictions, and prescribed burn
activities. The bill requires the website to include links to emergency information and wildfire
updates for each county. The division must coordinate with county governments to gather the
necessary information.
State Expenditures
The bill will increase workload in the DPS to coordinate with county governments and post the
new information on the Division of Fire Prevention and Control’s website. This increase is
assumed to be minimal and no change in appropriations is required.
Local Government
Counties will have a minimal workload impact to coordinate information-sharing with the DPS.
Effective Date
The bill takes effect 90 days following adjournment of the General Assembly sine die, assuming
no referendum petition is filed.
Departmental Difference
The Department of Public Safety estimates that the bill requires $52,614 and 0.5 FTE to
implement. This cost estimate represents 0.5 FTE Marketing and Communications Specialist to
coordinate with county governments and make improvements to the division’s website while
posting the new information. The fiscal note differs from this estimate by assuming that posting
the information required by the bill will be a minimal workload increase and that any additional
work on the website is not required by the bill.
