ONCERNING THE RECOGNITION OF SINGLE PARENT DAY.101
WHEREAS, The greatest need of every child is to be loved; and1
WHEREAS, Parents invest an immeasurable amount of time,2
energy, and devotion to raise their children and to provide them with the3
support and guidance required to become responsible, productive, and4
successful adults; and5
WHEREAS, The responsibility of raising children is particularly6
difficult when it falls on the shoulders of a single parent, whether it be7
due to divorce, death, or any other circumstance; and8
WHEREAS, According to United States Census data, almost a9
quarter of United States families with children under 18 years of age are10
single-parent families, amounting to over 10 million households; and11
WHEREAS, In 2023, over 15 million children were living in12
single-parent families in the United States; and13
WHEREAS, Single parents deserve respect and recognition for14

WHEREAS, In 1984, then-President Ronald Reagan declared2
March 21 as "National Single Parent Day"; now, therefore,3
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Seventy-fifth General Assembly4
of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives concurring herein:5
That we, the members of the Colorado General Assembly,6
continue to designate March 21 as "Single Parent Day in Colorado" in7
respectful recognition of single parents in Colorado.8
Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this joint resolution be sent9
to Janice S. Moglen, longtime Colorado advocate for Single Parent Day.10
