Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. Subdivision (1) of section 10-67 of the general statutes is repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective July 1, 2010): (1) "Adult" means (A) any person [sixteen years of age or over] who is [not] ineligible to be enrolled in a public elementary or secondary school program [or] because of age, pursuant to subsection (a) of section 10-220, (B) a student enrolled in school who was assigned to an adult class pursuant to subsection (d) of section 10-233d or section 10-73d, or (C) any person sixteen years of age or over who is granted special permission to enroll in an adult education program by the superintendent of schools for the school district, pursuant to section 2 of this act; Sec. 2. (NEW) (Effective July 1, 2010) The superintendent of schools for the school district may grant, upon receipt of a written application from the parent or legal guardian of a minor student, special permission to enroll in an adult education program, provided such student seeking enrollment in an adult education program is sixteen years of age or over. Such written application shall include an explanation of the particular circumstances for such student's enrollment in an adult education program.
