AN ACT CONCERNING THE INCOME TAX TREATMENT OF PROPERTY TAX ABATEMENTS GRANTED TO VOLUNTEER EMERGENCY PERSONNEL.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 229 of the general statutes be amended to provide an exclusion from the personal income tax in the amount of the value of any property tax abatement or exemption granted to a volunteer firefighter, paramedic, EMT or other volunteer pursuant to section 12-81w of the general statutes.

Statement of Purpose: 

To prevent emergency services personnel from having to pay state income taxes on the value of any municipal property tax relief such personnel may receive as a result of volunteering services to the municipality.
