AN ACT CONCERNING THE PRIORITY OF GRANDPARENTS IN CHILD CUSTODY CASES. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That sections 45a-617 and 17a-101m of the general statutes be amended to prioritize a grandparent ahead of another adult relative of a child when (1) a court is appointing a guardian for the child, or (2) the Commissioner of Children and Families is providing notice to relatives that the child has been removed from the custody of the child's parent or guardian. Statement of Purpose: To require that grandparents have priority over other adult relatives of a child when (1) a court is appointing a guardian for the child, or (2) notice is being provided that a child has been removed from the custody of the child's parent or guardian.
