REP. CARTER, 2nd Dist. AN ACT ALLOWING THE IMMEDIATE FAMILY OF A DECEASED VETERAN TO RECEIVE CERTIFIED COPIES OF A DEATH CERTIFICATE AT NO CHARGE. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That section 7-51a of the general statutes be amended to require the town clerk or the registrar of vital statistics, or their assistants, as the case my be, to provide two certified copies of the death certificate of a deceased veteran at no charge to the immediate family of the deceased in order to allow the family to apply for burial and survivor benefits. Failure to provide such certificates as directed shall be subject to a fine of two hundred fifty dollars. Statement of Purpose: To allow families of deceased veterans to apply for burial and survivor benefits without having to pay for copies of death certificates.
