AN ACT CONCERNING COURT INTERVIEWS IN CHILD CUSTODY CASES. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That chapter 815j of the general statutes be amended to require a court hearing a child custody case to interview a child twelve years of age or older in court chambers to determine the child's wishes concerning custody, residence, visitation or any other issue affecting the parent-child relationship. The court shall have the option to conduct any such interview for a child less than twelve years of age. Such interview may be initiated on motion or petition of a party, counsel for the child, guardian ad litem or by the court. Statement of Purpose: To encourage a child in a child custody case to express his or her desires concerning custody issues confidentially to the judge.
