AN ACT INCREASING ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION FOR INMATES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (NEW) (Effective July 1, 2011) The Department of Correction shall establish, within available appropriations, a pilot program to provide inmates, as defined in section 18-84 of the general statutes, with the opportunity to pursue undergraduate degrees on-line. For purposes of establishing such pilot program, the Department of Correction shall seek any available private or federal funds.

To increase access to postsecondary education for inmates and prepare them for the workforce upon their release.
