AN ACT DESIGNATING CERTAIN SECTIONS OF MUNICIPAL ROADS AS "ACCIDENT" OR "HOT" ZONES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2011) The legislative body of any municipality may designate certain sections of roads within such municipality as "accident" or "hot" zones based upon the volume of motor vehicle accidents on such sections of roads. Such signs shall designate the beginning and end of each such zone, and fines for traffic violations occurring within such zones shall be doubled. The state shall remit to any such municipality, on a quarterly basis, fifty per cent of the amount received by the state for citations for traffic violations occurring within such zones.

 


This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:

Statement of Purpose: 

To increase fines for traffic violations occurring on dangerous sections of roads and provide municipalities with additional revenue.
