AN ACT CONCERNING VISITS TO THE HOMES OF MENTALLY ILL OR EMOTIONALLY DISTURBED CHILDREN IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES' CUSTODY.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That chapter 319 of the general statutes be amended to require the Department of Children and Families to visit the home of any child placed in the department's custody as a result of mental illness or emotional disturbance. Such visit shall be conducted for the purpose of (1) assessing potential causes of the mental illness or emotional disturbance, including genetic and familial factors, and (2) helping determine what resources are needed to best treat the child.

Statement of Purpose:

To require the Department of Children and Families to visit the homes of mentally ill or emotionally disturbed children placed in the department's custody, in order to better assess and treat any genetic or familial factors that might be a cause of or have a correlation with a child's mental illness or emotional disturbance.
