AN ACT CONCERNING THE TRAINING REQUIREMENTS FOR MEDICAL DIRECTORS AT CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That section 18-81p of the general statutes be amended to require that any individual appointed as the medical director of a correctional facility shall, not later than one hundred eighty days after receiving such appointment, have ascertained professional certification or training in not less than one of the following four areas: (1) Possession of a subspecialty board certification in addiction psychiatry from the American Board of Medical Specialties; (2) possession of addiction certification from the American Society of Addiction Medicine; (3) possession of a subspecialty board certification in addiction medicine from the American Osteopathic Association; or (4) not less than eight hours of training in the treatment of opioid-addicted persons. Statement of Purpose: To require the medical directors of correctional facilities to have adequate training in the medical treatment of addiction.
