AN ACT CONCERNING A STUDENT LOAN PROGRAM FOR NURSING FACULTY. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That chapter 368a of the general statutes be amended to require the Department of Public Health to: (1) Establish a nursing faculty student loan program to provide loans and loan forgiveness to state residents who pursue a master's or doctoral degree from an accredited nursing program in the state and who agree, in writing, to engage in nursing instruction in an approved nursing program in the state; (2) establish a nursing faculty student loan cash account, which shall be a separate, nonlapsing account within the General Fund, and shall consist of grants and private donations and shall be used to administer the program; and (3) charge a fee of one dollar, in addition to any other fee, for each license renewal of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse, which shall be remitted to the State Treasurer for credit to said account. Statement of Purpose: To address the shortage of nursing faculty in the state.
