AN ACT PROVIDING INCOME TAX RELIEF FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES VOLUNTEERS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That chapter 229 of the general statutes be amended to provide an exemption from the personal income tax for any individual who volunteers as a firefighter, emergency medical technician, paramedic, civil preparedness staff, an active member of a volunteer canine search and rescue team, as defined in section 5-249 of the general statutes, or ambulance driver in the municipality in the amount of the value of any property tax abatement or exemption granted to such volunteer pursuant to section 12-81w of the general statutes.

Statement of Purpose: 

To exempt emergency services volunteers from paying state income tax on the value of any property tax relief which such volunteers may receive as a result of their volunteer services performed for the municipality.
