AN ACT CONCERNING COLLEGE READINESS ASSESSMENTS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (NEW) (Effective July 1, 2012) (a) Each local and regional board of education shall require each pupil enrolled in the tenth grade in a public school to undergo an assessment of such pupil's college readiness in the spring of such pupil's sophomore year.

(b) If any pupil who undergoes a college readiness assessment in accordance with subsection (a) of this section demonstrates any shortcomings in such pupil's college readiness, the pupil, such pupil's school and such pupil's parent or legal guardian shall collaborate to develop a remediation plan to ensure that such pupil is ready for college at the time of such pupil's graduation from high school.

To require college readiness assessments in high school and require any necessary remediation in advance of high school graduation.
