AN ACT CONCERNING THE DEFINITION OF "NOTARIAL ACT".

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. Subdivision (3) of section 3-94a of the general statutes is repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective October 1, 2012):

(3) "Notarial act" or "notarization" means any act that a notary public is empowered to perform under the general statutes and includes taking an acknowledgment, administering an oath or affirmation, witnessing or attesting a signature and certifying or attesting a copy.

Statement of Purpose: 

To clarify the types of acts performed by notaries public which are included in the definition of "notarial act".
