Proposed Bill No. 5131

January Session, 2013

LCO No. 287

Referred to Committee on SELECT COMMITTEE ON VETERANS' AFFAIRS

Introduced by:

REP. NICASTRO, 79th Dist.

AN ACT CONCERNING UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION BENEFITS FOR SPOUSES OF MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES WHO ARE DEPLOYED OR TRANSFERRED.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That chapter 567 of the general statutes be amended to make an individual who voluntarily leaves employment to accompany a spouse who is required to relocate during active-duty service with the armed forces eligible for unemployment compensation benefits for the duration of such a relocation, notwithstanding the requirement that an individual must be available for work and make reasonable efforts to obtain work to receive unemployment compensation benefits.

Statement of Purpose:

To close a gap that prevents individuals from receiving unemployment compensation benefits while they are relocating with a spouse who is a member of the armed forces and has been transferred or deployed.
